Movie Review
The film supposedly ends the prolonged drought at the film theatres, being the first big release after the two-month strike that crippled the industry. Sadly, this colourless college romance fails to quench the thirst of the viewer who has been longing for the return of the big bang (read blockbuster) on the big screen. Neither the story nor the debut kids (Jackky Bhagnani and Vaishali Desai) have much to offer in this strange mish-mash of romance and terrorism.
Punjabi munda Nihal (Jackky) leaves his provincial town for the big city, much to the discomfiture of his talkative bebe (mom, Archana Puran Singh). After the usual ragging, he does manage to settle in with his newfound friends and his science professor (Rishi Kapoor) in the upmarket college where everybody seems to spend all the time on the stairs. In between, he also manages to save the haughty college hottie (Vaishali) from a bomb explosion and becomes the police department's number one flunky in the bomb disposal squad. That's because the prescient munda can see where the bombs are hidden -- and they seem to be hidden all over the city -- and can also point out the wire that needs to be cut. This apart, he can jump across high rise hotels, indulge in acrobatic cliff hanging, drive an exploding car into the ocean and deliver the knock out punch, when needed. Need we say more....
So, what's Rishi Kapoor doing in a bad hair day and a bad role too? And what's Riteish Deshmukh doing playing side hero? Truly, the film was supposed to be a launch vehicle for producer Vashu Bhagnani's son, but the makers failed to decide whether they want to project the boy as an action hero or an unassuming lover boy. Poor Jackky. All he can do is sport a wide grin through the ensuing chaos, while newcomer Vaishali responds with a wide-eyed look, all through the film. Even the audio track has nothing much to reccomend. Better luck next time.
